Introduction

This course is delivered by Cranfield School of Management at Bedford on behalf of the Defence Academy.

The Defence Academy has joined forces with Cranfield School of Management to offer a unique MBA programme that is specifically designed for the defence community. The MBA (Defence) programme is a development of the successful AMBA-accredited MDA (Masters in Defence Administration) programme, which was offered at our Shrivenham campus for nearly 20 years. It reflects a growing interest both within the UK defence sector and the international defence community for management education. The programme will meet the need for those working in the defence sector to command a comprehensive portfolio of commercial management skills, enabling them to contribute more effectively towards the management of major defence procurement projects.

Aim

Takes you on to accelerated career advancement within the defence sector. The MBA programme will equip you to lead and influence the development of organisations in this rapidly evolving sector.

Entry Requirements

Restrictions

All applicants, irrespective of academic background, will be required to undertake a Cranfield School of Management Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).

Exemptions

There are no exemptions for this course.

Pre-requisites

Normally a 1st or 2nd class honours degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable. A minimum of 3 years' work experience. Students whose native language is not English must attain an IELTS score of 7 or TOEFL score of 600 (paper test) or 100 (internet test).

Suitable for tri-service military officers, civil service and agency managers and defence industrial executives, as well as others in the broad defence and security community. We welcome applications from international candidates. This course is centrally funded less T&S and is primarily aimed at mid career officers (Major (OF3) rank) and above, equivalent grade MOD Civil Servants, in an associated career field or employment.
Course Details

Course Elements

For the first year, students take the School of Management's MBA core modules, studying alongside, and being part of, a learning team of students drawn from all sectors.

In part two of the programme, students take four compulsory defence modules, choose one from three defence elective themes and select one general MBA elective theme from a rotating list of subject areas.

Students are also required to take appropriate elements of the School of Management's Personal and Professional Development module, which serves as the backbone of the MBA programme. In addition, students complete a focused defence management Independent Research Project.

Applications received outside of these dates will not be processed. This course is generally oversubscribed with applications and a Selection Board will be convened by the Training and Education Team at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham, with academic input from Cranfield University staff to prioritise nominations.  Applicants will be notified of the results by COP Fri 14 Jul 17.
